Thailand Open 2: Wang gets past Sherif
Wang Qiang rallied past Egypt's Mayar Sherif in Hua Hin
Wang, the 2018 WTA Hong Kong Open champion, secured a 2-6 7-5 6-2 victory in two hours and 31 minutes to set up a second round meeting with Anna Blinkova.
Sherif, ranked 53rd in the world, won the first set comfortably but Wang, ranked 100th, responded well in the second set and staved off two set points while serving at 5-4 down to force a decider.
World number 147 Blinkova was a 6-2 6-3 winner over Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell in the opening match on the outer court.
