Lionesses Boss Explains Why She Is Not Getting Carried Away Despite Emphatic Victory Over France

England can still improve - Wiegman

Lionesses boss explains why she is not getting carried away despite emphatic victory over France

Sarina Wiegman insisted that her England side are showing improvements despite their hopes of winning Euro 2025 dwindling following a 2-1 defeat to France in Newcastle.

Amel Majri’s 84th-minute header inflicted England's first home defeat since September 2019, after Ella Toone had cancelled out Melvine Malard’s opener.

Although England dominated possession 58 to 42 per cent and had more shots 12 to France's nine, Wiegman was not getting carried away.

"I think in general we played a good game," she said. "We created a lot, we had control, we pressed them a lot, but we were punished.

"We have to learn from this to be more efficient in both boxes. We had a lot of moments that we had to score from. We need to get better, but there are a lot of positives."
