Bram Van Polen Salaris

Farewell to Dutch defender Bram van Polen

Defender to hang up his boots after the season

38-year-old has played for PEC Zwolle and Willem II

Veteran Dutch defender Bram van Polen has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the season, after a successful career spanning over two decades.

Van Polen, who currently plays for PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie, made the announcement in a statement on the club's website on Monday.

"It's a big decision for me, but I feel it's the right time to hang up my boots," said van Polen. "I've had an incredible journey in football, and I'm grateful for all the experiences and memories I've made."

Van Polen, who turns 39 in April, has been a key player for PEC Zwolle since joining the club in 2018, making over 100 appearances and helping the team to win the KNVB Cup in 2021.

Prior to joining PEC Zwolle, van Polen played for Willem II, Fortuna Sittard, and Vitesse Arnhem, among other clubs.

"I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, and fans who have supported me throughout my career," added van Polen. "I will cherish these memories forever."

Van Polen has been a regular for PEC Zwolle this season, starting 15 of the team's 22 league matches.

He will be hoping to finish his career on a high by helping PEC Zwolle secure a top-half finish in the Eredivisie.
