When VICE's Fiction Editor Married a Philosopher
Amie Barrodale’s and Clancy Martin’s Indian Nuptials
Amie Barrodale and Clancy Martin had been in India for a month, and it looked like the wedding wasn’t going to happen.
Martin, an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, had been teaching a monthlong intensive course on 19th-century philosophy at the University of Hyderabad. He had also been helping Barrodale, who used to be an editor at The Onion, finish editing her first book of short stories, *The Him.* Around the time of the wedding, she also became the fiction editor at VICE.
“I would get up at 7 a.m. and go across the hall and knock on his door and give him notes on his manuscript, and then he would give me notes on my manuscript,” said Barrodale. “When I finished, I thought to myself, ‘Wow, Clancy and Amie Barrodale must really love each other if this is how we’re going to spend our wedding day.’”
